Cabotage

We help you save money by facilitating cabotage.

We move containers from a client (the supplier) with excess containers in a given location to another client (the receiver) who needs them. The receiver loads the container with cargo and moves it on a one-way trip from a pick-up origin to a drop-off destination agreed with iGlobal Equipment and the supplier. The receiver enjoys free usage of the containers as long as they are returned to the specified return location within the given time. The supplier enjoys low-cost positioning of the containers to a more cost-effective location where they can be utilized to bring in more profit.

Advantages.

Cabotage has a number of advantages. Firstly, moving empty containers is a net loss for the supplier, while adding cargo from the receiver turns it into a win-win situation. Precious cargo is getting moved to where the receiver can make a profit by selling them while the supplier is able to reposition the containers to a more favorable location with the transportation cost mostly covered by the receiver. Secondly, container deficits in one location can be balanced with surpluses from other locations. Thirdly, containers can be moved from low demand areas to high demand areas in order to minimize downtime.

Comparison with empty repositioning.

Freight is when the shipping containers are loaded onto a vessel without cargo and delivered as required. Freight incurs significant transportation overhead costs as an empty container isn't moving precious cargo while using transportation resources. Freight also contributes to unnecessary pollution.
